Monday 1.23.12

General Chemistry:
Today we graded the quiz from last Friday and took the IA practice tests.  We also adopted 2 elements per person and checked in the element handbook (in the back of the textbook) for any information on those elements.  More with this tomorrow as we head to the computer lab for more research for the posters we will make for the elements.  We have the presentation aud tomorrow Block 1, 2nd half; Block 1 students will meet in the Library (Room 403) for class; Block 3 students will go to the library the second half of the block (main lab area).

If anyone still has lab reports (Measurement, Bunsen Burner, or Density) still out, or did not turn in their Cornell Notes over Chapter 1 sections 2 and 3, PLEASE do so ASAP.

AP Chemistry:
Today we reviewed a few questions over Chapter 14 - quiz tomorrow.  We also discussed the backbones of equilibrium: the K expression and the ICE table.  More to come on that Wednesday.  Lab again this Thursday and the memorize me quiz for Friday will include the solubility table without the exceptions.

Wednesday 1.4.11

Happy New Year to everyone!  :-)

General Chemistry:  Congratulations on finding the blogpage!!  Please check out all this site has to offer and let me know if you think it needs something or you find something not working right.  Today we handed out materials and discussed the first 12 pages of your class binders.  You have a short homework assignment to discuss any background info you wish to tell me along with 3 goals you have for yourself, 2 requests of your classmates, and 1 request of me.  These will be collected at the beginning of class.  Tomorrow will be Safety and Lab Orientation; Friday will include a safety quiz along with a math review. You have several things due MONDAY:  Signed syllabus (p. 7), Parent Form (p. 11-12), supplies (like a calculator, paper, and either paper towels, kleenex, glue, or notecards), and the safety contract (assigned tomorrow).  Stay on top of things as we go swinging into the term!

AP Chemistry:  Off we go... this term will include Bonding (Chapters 9 & 10 in your textbook) starting tomorrow, then Solutions / Colligative Properties (Chapter 14), finally Equilibrium (Chapters 16, 17, and 18).  Plan on labs every Thursday from here on out except for 1.5.11 and 2 quizzes every Friday (one MMQ and one topic quiz).  Term 4 will include the topics of Kinetics (Chapter 15), Thermodynamics (Chapters 6 & 19), and Electrochemistry (Chapter 20).  Hang on!!  :-)
