Advisory today - SENIORS got information about graduation announcments, caps and gowns, etc. IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW MISSED THIS SEMINAR, SEE ECKHARDT ASAP TO GET THE INFO FROM HERFF JONES!!! DO NOT WAIT TO DO THIS!!!!
General Chemistry:
Today, we graded p. 67 after having a quick bell-ringer formative quiz to check where everyone is at with knowing the layout of the periodic table. Then we chatted briefly about the location of electrons in the atoms (using the Bohr model of the atom) and assigned p. 69-71. Students worked on this for half an hour, then we chatted about any problems that arose. We will grade these pages officially tomorrow.
Also tomorrow, we will do an isotope lab activity and learn about electron configurations. Quiz Friday! :-)
Advanced Chemistry:
Today we discussed more about types of reactions, net ionic equations, and assigned some problems to do for Friday (p. 224 #'s 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 24, 30, 32 [16 is Extra Credit]). Tomorrow will be lab day (Advanced Chem Experiment #11 - Cycle of Copper Lab) - the lab will carry over into Friday - no quiz this week. We will quiz over Chapter 5 next Friday and then have the following Monday to review for our TERM FINAL that is taking place on Tuesday October 11 and Wednesday October 12.
The purpose of this site is two-fold: (1) keep parents and students informed of day-to-day activities of the classes I teach and (2) provide additional/advanced/current information about chemistry for your enjoyment.
Have some fun!

TGIF!!!!!!!!!
General Chemistry:
We went over the assigned HW sheets (handed some in, graded some of the others, went over answers but did not grade others...), then took the weekly quiz and wrote a journal.
Advanced Chemistry:
At the request of pretty much all students, we re-iterated how to write up the labs (repeated things said on Monday...), graded the HW problems (5 of the 10), and then spent time reviewing how to do the HW problems. Test is postponed until Monday. Do NOT get used to this!!

General Chemistry:
Today we were a bit off-topic as we discussed bullying (which was the topic of discussion in advisory today). We ended the class by discussing the atom and how to tell protons/neutrons/electrons numbers along with mass numbers for the different elements. Sub tomorrow with assigned work. Quiz on Friday as usual. :-)
Advanced Chemistry:
Lab today - Advanced Chemistry Experiment #8. Work Day on Thursday of this week when I am gone to write curriculum at the ASC. :-) Test over Chapter 4 on FRIDAY - BE READY!!!!

Thursday 9.15.11
Apologies to everyone about the lack of updating... let's get back on track. :-)
Thanks to all who came to conferences; anytime you would like an update on grades, feel free to check Infinite Campus (have your student log in with their e-locker ID and password if you do not have a parent portal ID and password) or contact me at trimblem@davenportschools.org. I am sending home grade sheets with students for parents to see, sign and return by Monday 9.19.
General Chemistry:
Yesterday and Today, we discussed lab write-ups (the measurement lab in particular) and went over the Whatsa Matter pages in the binder. We also started finalizing your notes from Chapter 3 over the scientists / history of the atom / discovery of the sub-atomic particles; we finished up those notes on Thursday.
Tomorrow (Friday) will be another quiz, journal, and a fun activity. The quiz will include the Chapter 1 material, the math we've been working on for SEVERAL weeks, and the new information this week from the history of the atom / discovery of the sub-atomic particles.
The Lab Report for the Measurement Lab is DUE MONDAY!!!
Advanced Chemistry:
This week, we have been finishing up Chapter 3. Advanced Lab #7 was done on Tuesday (we're getting dry masses today and tomorrow) and today we did AP Chem Lab #1. Both lab write-ups will be due on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 23rd.
There is a quiz tomorrow over Chapter 3. Study your homework assignment we graded on Monday 9.12!!
Lab reports for Advanced Lab #5 (chocolate milk) was due on TUESDAY 9.13 and the re-writes of Advanced Labs #1, 2, and 3 were due on WEDNESDAY 9.14. Turning them in late is better than not at all...
I wish you all a wonderful weekend and a Happy Homecoming!! GO FALCONS!!!! :-)
