Welcome back from Thanksgiving... only 3 weeks and 3 days left in the term!!
General Chemistry: After grading the quiz we took on 11.22.11, we began the study of Stoichiometry (Chapter 9 in the textbook). We will finish this topic by Friday and then move onto Gas Laws. Expect a bit of homework each night this week.
AP Chemistry: After grading the exam over Gas Laws, we began notes on Chapters 7 and 8 in Kotz. This topic will be finished by Friday (another quiz/test/exam!) so we can move on to Bonding next week (Chapters 9 and 10). No rest for the weary!
The purpose of this site is two-fold: (1) keep parents and students informed of day-to-day activities of the classes I teach and (2) provide additional/advanced/current information about chemistry for your enjoyment.
Have some fun!

Friday (again!) 11.4.11
General Chemistry:
After learning how to name compounds and write correct formulas for compounds this past week, we took a bonding assessment today. Next week, it's on to reactions! BE SURE TO BRING YOUR BOOKS ON MONDAY!!!!
AP Chemistry:
Titrations went very well yesterday in lab, as did using the carbonless data notebooks. :-) Today, we took memorize me quiz #3, graded reaction prediction 3 (#4 is below - due next THURSDAY), discussed the lab data write-ups (the OFFICIAL, TYPED write-up is DUE next THURSDAY), and worked an example from Chapter 5 on titrations. HW = p. 227 # 70, 72, & 76 and p. 1104 # 14, 16, & 18 - DUE MONDAY!! We're also looking at a quiz/test/exam next THURSDAY over the pieces of Chapters 5, 8, and 22 that we've been working with this term.

SCIENCE READING REPORT (Reporting the Story) - Extra Credit Opportunity
Directions:
Find a chemistry-related or science-related article from the newspaper, internet, or magazine (dated 2009 or newer, please!) OR watch a science program on TV (a news snippet, NOVA, something on the History Channel…)
Report the science facts on your own paper according to the outline below. Remember to cite your source!!
— Source:
Use MLA or APA formatting – see your planners or search online how to do this!
— Title of Article/Program:
— Date of print/airing:
— What happened / what is being researched / what new development is occurring? Why did it happen? (Give me at least 5 sentences minimum here…)
— Who are the main characters?
— When and Where did this happen?
— How did it end / what’s up next?
— Your personal thoughts and opinions on this topic:
