Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow... :-)
General Chemistry:
Today we graded the problems over scientific notation/sig figs and those on conversions from p. 39 and 50. We then did 2 lab activities on how to use the equipment in the lab. We will discuss more about the lab write ups tomorrow in class... More importantly, there will be a QUIZ tomorrow over safety and the math we have been working on.
The answers to the problems not assigned on p. 39 are as follows (in case you are trying some while you are studying...)
5. 7.0 g
6. 4 x 10^3 cm/s
7. 3.33 x 10^1 cm
11. 3 x 10^1 m
12. 6 x 10^2 K/s
13. 6 x 10^3 m/s
14. 1.22 ATM
From p. 50
1. 2 x 10^2 oz
2. 5 lb
3. 4 x 10^2 in
4. 9.0 x 10^3 lb
5. 2 x 10^2 cups
6. 2 x 10^3 yd
10. 1.2 x 10^4 hm
11. 2 x 10^4 sec
12. 9.0 min
13. 8.9 x 10^1 km/hr
15. 4 x 10^6 cm^3
16. 3 x 10^7 seconds
(keep in mind that the above answers are rounded to the correct number of sig figs...)
A. P. Chemistry:
Today we did lab 5 (wicked purple smoke). Write up is due next Friday. Tomorrow you have 2 quizzes - memorize me quiz #9 and the topic quiz on bonding.
The purpose of this site is two-fold: (1) keep parents and students informed of day-to-day activities of the classes I teach and (2) provide additional/advanced/current information about chemistry for your enjoyment.
Have some fun!

Report the science facts on your own paper according to the outline below. Remember to cite your source!!
— Source:
Use MLA or APA formatting – see your planners or search online how to do this!
— Title of Article/Program:
— Date of print/airing:
— What happened / what is being researched / what new development is occurring? Why did it happen? (Give me at least 5 sentences minimum here…)
